Isabelle Allende-And of Clay We Are Created

This story was quite powerful, because it was written with such great description of the events, the emotions and the setting. The description really helped the story become moving, because it portrayed the emotions of the people as well as what they were thinking about. The way the author described the land and the events made it seem like the earth was human. I also really liked how the main character changed, because he went from a man who never thought about his past or even addressed it, to a man who completely opened up to a stranger. He tried and tried to save this little girl, and he had to watch her die, and it was like he was the one that was dying.  I don't really understand how he came to love her so much even though they had only known each other for three days. One reason why I think this happened is because the little girl, and her situation and vulnerability opened him up, and he finally got the courage to face his own demons while looking at someone else's. This story is really powerful because it shows vulnerability, as well as loss.

I chose this article before I read the story, but I still think it'd be cool to write about a natural disaster.

Kate Chopin- The Story of an Hour

I really liked this story. I thought that this story was really well written,  and well plotted. I thought that the way Chopin described Mrs. Mallard was very interesting, because she was so unlike other women in the 19th century. Mrs. Mallard was happy when her husband died, not because he was a bad guy, but because she could finally be free. This describes what a lot of people, not just women, want. They want to be free to do what they want when they want. It's just like kids and vacation. We love vacation so much because we don't have anything to do and no one will tell us what to do.
